Gweedore is part of the Gaeltacht region in north west County Donegal. It boasts beautiful views of the coast, particularly '''Bloody Foreland''' and is surprisingly populated for its remoteness. In the past, poor planning and overdevelopment means that there is a plethora of houses which takes away from the beauty of the scenery. It is located in the heart of the Gaeltacht and Irish is the predominant language of the area.
Get in
Carrickfinn airport, or '''Donegal Airport''', is only about 10 kilometers from '''Gweedore''' and has car-hire facilities. Most visitors, though, arrive into Gweedore from '''Letterkenny''' or '''The Rosses''', using their own transport or cars hired elsewhere. Gweedore is poorly served by bus services.
Get around
See
'''Bloody Foreland''', so called because of the red tint that this headland takes on when the sun is setting.
Talk
The main spoken language of the district is Irish, the majority of locals are Irish speakers of some degree. You will hear English spoken regularly however, and indeed even locals who speak Irish will often choose to speak English to each other. It is common to hear Irish spoken, but far more common to hear English spoken. A few Irish words here and there might go down well but any attempt to speak more than a few words of Irish is unnecessary unless you are looking to learn Irish. Be warned however that Irish is a notoriously hard language to learn, even for local children.
