A large cross which was constructed in 1912, to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the founding of La Purisima Mission & 100th anniversary of its destruction, by members of the community can be observed on the top of the hill behind the Veterans Memorial Building. In 1972 it was moved to its present location in the 100 block of West Chestnut Avenue and restored by the Lompoc Unified School District.
