'''The Colony''' [http://www.thecolonychamber.com] is a bedroom community in North Texas, about 30 miles north of Dallas. The Colony is probably best known for the unusually high number of liquor stores among the neighboring dry cities. Though it is technically a city, it is mainly considered an oasis for commuters and drinkers.

Understand

Get in

The Colony can be accessed by Texas State Highway 121 to the south or 380 to the north if you can fight through overcrowded streets caused by poorly thought out construction constantly going on throughout the entire city.

Get around

See

The colony has one of, if not the only city hall/library that was formerly a food lion shut down for numerous heath code violations.

Visit the Memorial to Veterans of the Armed Services located within The Colony Five Star Complex. The concept of the Veteran's Memorial began in 2003, with The Colony Masonic Lodge #1451's commitment to recognize and honor all Veterans. Bricks around the cenotaph display Veterans of the past, present and future and consist of the name, rank, branch of the military, and years of service for both active personnel and honorably discharged veterans.

Do

The sports, outdoor, and water bound enthusiast can find plenty to do in The Colony. You can take to the water on 23 miles of shoreline, choose from a selection of 23 municipal parks, or visit multiple attractions while enjoying a relaxing and scenic atmosphere in The Colony. Make sure to bring money, because if you want to find a safe place to have fun, you damn sure are going to pay for it.

Play golf on two of the "finest" golf courses in Texas (so they say) or visit Stewart Creek Park (bring money) and MarineQuest (bring money) at Hidden Cove (bring money) for camping, hiking, fishing, boating, swimming, or just unwinding in a scenic lake setting (or alligator/discarded appliance related research.)

Hawaiian Falls Water park (for about 20$ for entry per person, not including food and lockers)and The Colony Aquatic Park provide family fun in the summertime in The Colony for very young children, though, adults might find that the water park lacks a pool deeper than 4 feet. The aquatic park has no diving boards, and is useless for anything other than laps and geriatric aerobics classes so bring a noodle or something. Both attractions are open for about 5 months to the general public out of the year, because having fun in winter is ridiculous.

  • '''The Tribute''', [http://www.thetributegc.com/]. Offers a recreation of many of the famous holes from Scotland's historic courses. If you want to play The Road Hole at St. Andrews, here's the next best thing. Located north of the city in The Colony.
  • Buy

    Eat

Fast food, or prepackaged food from one of many gas stations. Because this area shuts down at ten, visit the local Wendy's, taco bell, or Whataburger for a cheap, albeit greasy, meal, should you happen to be lost.

    Drink

A few rounds at the local pubs, bars, or bar/grills might be a worthwhile diversion, but get a designated driver, as cabs are few and far between, and public transit is non-existent.

    Sleep

Budget Inn and Comfort Suites are the only source of lodging although more motel/hotels are supposedly in the works.
