One of the more exclusive places to stay in the Quindio region is Casa Alto del Coronel in Salento. Owned by the mayor of Armenia, there are only two suites available for visitors. Carefully restored and furnished, prices are around 115,000 pesos (__26), including breakfast. Each suite has a master bedroom and two single beds in an adjoining room. No email or website, but call 6-759-3760 when in Colombia to book ahead.

To the north-west of Quindio's capital [http://www.anotherworlduk.com/destinations/armenia.htm Armenia] lies the spectacular Valle de Cocora where visitors can walk amongst forests of the world's tallest palm tree and the national tree of Colombia; the wax palm. For further natural excursions, the expansive Los Nevados National Park provides high mountain peaks, topped with snow; the perfect habitat for the elusive but majestic Andean Condor. For the family, Quindio is the perfect get-away. Safe and relaxed amidst the lush greeness of the surrounding mountains. Activities that families will enjoy emmersing themselves in include the National Coffee Farm that offers theme-park rides and tours, the Panaca animal petting farm and the "Mariposario" or Butterfly Park.
