With the rate of development occurring in the Northgate area, any description of it will not be timely. Nonetheless, there are some constants. Northgate mall, the first mall of its type in the United States has already undergone drastic improvements but is undergoing several more. Prior to its mid-90s remodeling it was also one of the ugliest malls in America, but it is still no visual prize. Beyond the mall proper, there are shopping centers abounding, with the most notable being the one immediately north of the mall, containing major stores such as Target, GI Joe's, Best Buy, and Ross.
While the amount of shopping possible in this area is vast, it will be of little appeal to travellers as the stores here are all major chains available elsewhere. Northgate really serves as North Seattle's mercantile hub but little else.
