The '''Bolan Pass''' is in Pakistan. This route is only open at this time for locals and aid workers.
Understand
This is an alternative to the Khyber Pass further North. See comments there; the ethnic groups and dangers are similar.
Talk
The local language is Pushtu, but many people also speak Pakistan's Urdu
or Afghanistan's Dari. A few speak English.
Cities
The pass links Kandahar in Afghanistan to Quetta in Pakistan. There are small towns in between.
Get in
See
A British-led army of mostly Indian troops marched through here during the Second Afghan War, in 1839. Those interested in military history could see the battlefields. The British defeat at Maiwand, near Kandahar, is where Sherlock Holmes' friend Doctor Watson was wounded.
Stay safe
This area, as of mid-2008, is definitely not safe.
