By road
If you want to drive down to Chandipur from Kolkata(Calcutta) - the directions are as follows
? Take the Second Hooghly Bridge
? Follow Kona Expressway ( 4-Lane road)
? At the Bombay Road crossing - take a left.
? Follow Bombay Road ( 4-Lane road)
? You may break at the A1 Plaza inside the Reliance petrol station. It would be to your left - a 30-40 minute ride from the Kona Expressway - Bombay Road junction (Avoid the Azad Hind Dhaba - it is no longer upto the mark)
? Keep straight till you cross the Rupnarayan river ( the bridge is one way and the river is wide)
? After you cross the river you will see the Kolaghat Thermal Power Station to your left
? Immediately after the Power Station is a junction (Haldia junction)? go straight. (left goes to Haldia)
? Kharagpur Junction. Go straight towards NH 60 (4-lane concrete road - careful of the turn you take)
? NH 60 after Kharagpur is peaceful compared to NH 5. Very few buses and trucks and road is bordered by paddy fields stretching to the horizon. This is an amazing road - we clocked an average of 120 KM/hr and a highest of 150 KM/hr - but careful they are constructing speedbreakers on the road now.
? West Bengal-Orissa border: Caution: Few people are of late collecting hefty road tax(Rs.500/- for Maruti 800, Rs.800/- for Maruti Swift, Rs.1050/-for Bolero, even from private vehicles, valid for six months) at the boarder in the name of motor vehicles dept of orissa. Their genuineness is questionable (though they issue some receipts). We were told that this tax is presently being collected at all entry points of the state. But we could not find that in the Digha-Chandaneswar-Balasore route two days later).
? Before reaching Jaleswar town, you_fll find that the new 4-lane NH-60 stretch is under construction.
? Basleshwar (Balasore) town. Traffic congestion. Take a left turn under overhead bridge.
? Go straight. You_fll reach the bus stand. Cross the flyover after it and take a right turn immediately after crossing the flyover.
? Take a right turn in the next junction
? Go straight till you reach a Police point. There is a Cinema hall just behind it. Take right turn and go straight till the road meets another road.
? Take left turn and go straight.
? Around 10 km off, you_fll see some signboards of various hotels in Chandipur-on-sea. Take left turn and go straight. This is easy to miss - try not to go into the Integrated Test Launch Zone. You_fre there!

'''Harassment of tourist in Orissa by RTO Officials'''
We spent few days of holiday in Chandipur and Puri. We drove my car to Chandipur and Puri. While returning to from Chandipur to home at Kolkata, on 23/Feb /2009, one RTO official (Addl RTO Enf, Balasore) stopped my car. near Jaleshwar outpost in Orissa near West Bengal border on NH-5 and sized my car paper and asked me to pay Rs1000/-.
'''Since this is our personal car and we were on a private tour, it is completely illegal to ask for such tax. They threatened me that they will destroy my car papers and seize my car. I called up Jaleshwar Police Station and they refused to help me. We drove to the outpost to ask for help, the constable without listening to my complaints threatened me again and started kicking my car and abusing me. They forced me to pay Rs550/- as tax after some negotiations'''.
Since I am not resident of Orissa and travelling on national highway on private tour, the act of RTO officer is completely illegal and infringes upon my fundamental right as citizen of India to move freely within my country. This also surely damages the reputation of Orissa as a tourist destination.
After this experience I have decided avoid all tourist destination in Orissa and will advise the same to the readers.
In case of Orissa Govt. I believe they don't bother to take care of it, though tourism is one of the most revenue generator of the Govt.!!!!
