However, it was originally began as three tracts of land that were given as grants in 1631 to Quakers who responded to William Penn. Known as the West Chester Intersection, after an 1832 rail line to West Chester joined the Philadelphia Columbia Railroad under construction, this town developed slowly in the beginning. In in the 1870_fs it was called Malvern. It incorporated in August 13, 1889, and at that time business in Malvern was very prosperous. For this reason there is a high concentration of buildings from the 1880-1910 period.
