En route to Burnside, be sure to stop at the ''Long Chute Lookout''. This wooden platform offers a panoramic view of Burnside and the surrounding seascape and is only a short walk from the road on a well-worn walking trail. The little communities of ''Squid Tickle'', ''Hollett_fs Tickle'' and ''Hollett_fs Cove'' were amalgamated in 1921 and named ''Burnside''. The name Burnside originates from a forest fire that destroyed a large part of the area in 1912. Yet Burnside_fs history goes back much farther than this. Artifacts from Maritime Archaic, Paleo-Eskimo and Beothuck Indians found in the area imply that these peoples frequented the area to hunt and fish. Evidence of this may be found at the '''Burnside Archaeological Centre''' in the heart of Burnside. Boat tours are also available to view the archaeological sites nearby. Breathtaking scenery from these sites is an added attraction. The 45 minute ferry ride to St. Brendan_fs may also be taken from Burnside. There is also a short walking trail from the St. Alban_fs Anglican Church to the Burnside Archaeology Centre.
