This neighbourhood is Sao Paulo's version of Los Angeles's Little Tokyo district, a tourist is bound to find there everything Japanese and oriental-related. Originally the settling place of Japanese immigrants, Chinese and Koreans have also joined in the past decades. The name ''Liberdade'' means "liberty" in Portuguese.
