    Understand

Selenge stands out among Mongolian aimags for its forests and prevalence of agriculture. Its landscape is defined by its two big rivers, the Orkhon and the Selenge. Foreign travellers usually come to Selenge to see the spectacular Amarbayasgalant Monastery or briefly on the Trans-Siberian Railroad, where they stop in the pleasant but quiet aimag capital, Sukhbaatar. Mongolian travellers, however, often come for the relatively lush river and forest scenery, especially to the scenic areas of Nomt, Saihny Hutul, Dulaanhan Rashaan (spa), and the holy site of Eej Mod (Mother Tree). Among Mongolians, Selenge is a destination for berry-pickers and is reknowned for its delicious honey. There is also good fishing in the Selenge and Orkhon rivers.
