'''Southern Barbados''' is in Barbados.

Cities

The Southern Coast usually refers to the Christ Church parish of Barbados, but also includes parts of St. Philip and St. Michael. Popular areas include Worthing, Hastings, St. Lawrence Gap and Silver Sands in Christ Church as well as Crane Beach in St. Philip. In general the South Coast operates at a busier pace than the rest of the island. It is the home of many of the restaurants, bars and nightclubs of Barbados. It's where the action is!

Sleep

The South Coast of Barbados is lined with all sorts of accommodation from budget hotels, apartments and guest houses to more upscale condos and hotels. With a surge in condo developments over the last 5 years, there are several self-catering apartments available for rent by owner, as well as through development rental pools, in areas like Hastings, Worthing, Rockley and St. Lawrence Gap (the entertainment district of Barbados).

In Silver Sands, further east, but still considered South Coast, there are smaller hotels, guest houses and beach houses. This area is popular among surfers and wind-surfers. On the South Coast in general, prices range from US $50 to $450 per night.

    Talk

The official language in Barbados is English. Locals also speak an English dialect reminiscent of the Scottish highland dialect... Which is referred to as Bajan. There are a few African words interspersed with the dialect. Communication will not be a problem for any English speaker as Barbados has one of the highest literacy rates in the Western Hemisphere of around 99.9 percent.

    Getting to Barbados

    Get around

Getting around on the south is a breeze. Public transport operates regularly (as often as every 10 minutes) along the south coast road. Choose from the government operated "transpoart board buses" which are easily recognizable large blue buses with a yellow stripe. Mini-buses (smaller yellow buses with blue stripe) and ZR vans (small white vans with purple stripe that seat up to 15 people) are privately operated. All buses operate to and from Bridgetown, the captial of Barbados, with the by-pass bus running from the south coast directly to the west coast.
