  • Many hotels in Sauraha that have restaurants serve good food but getting the food is another question, they forget or they dont understand english so they take your order(you think) and disappear to do other things. Especially two places that we were staying at called "Chitwan tiger camp" that is mentioned aswell under stay safe or Backgrounds, where we thought the food was good but the service and the igorance we recived was beyond any excuse that we did not recive either. Do not be hungry coming here or have your own food and order a beer to see the sunset by the riverside are some options. Aswell, restaurant at "Jungle Adventure world" where you must bring your nepalese phrase book to make a food order. If you did not get anything what you ordered, walk away with a smile because they do not understand anyway. Enyojed the city restaurants alot though!

    Drink

  • '''Jungle Pub''' The original bar on the beach, and the ideal place to watch the sun go down over the jungle. It's also the hang-out of the custom motorcycle riders from Kathmandu and Pokhara when they're in town, so you might see some interesting Royal Enfield bikes.

All are located either in the deep jungle or the buffer zone of the park and have the best-trained elephants and wildlife naturalists to take you on superb safaris.
  • Camping

    Backcountry

Many guides outside the park in the Sauraha area just use one quallified guide with a government license at the jungle walks, which means that you also have an assistent guide with you that does not need a license and can be new to the jungle. As we found out on our jungle walk that we booked with Chitwan Tiger Camp, we then were attacked by a sloth bear female in the jungle. Our guide did not know what animal it was in the bushes but he waved us in to the bushes anyway. You trust your guide so we followed his lead and so did the little boy who was supposed to be our assistent guide and protect us. As suddenly it started to roar loudly and run towards us and the boy ran off in front off us and took a firm grip to push one of us aside to get away quicker. The other older guide with "25 years of experience" fought to scare the bear back in to the forest but after all, it was he who came in to the bears territory and not the other way around. We experienced a bear attack and were not going to trust this "guides" again so we left the jungle and wanted our money back for irresponsible behaviour. Look out for "Krishna" at "Chitwan tiger camp", he did not even listen to our complaints after the attack and having a judgment like a five year old. Be safe and keep your life by paying that little extra to get a safe experience with at least licensed guides in the resorts inside the park gates.

Often aswell, guides are drunk at evening risking your lifes at overnight stays in jungle towers when you need their assistance for going on toilet on ground floor where a tiger can walk around. Not waking up or having a bad judgement for two examples, rest is simple to figure out when alcohol and safety comes together. Our drunk guide actually offered us a night walk in the jungle when it was pitch dark. He was so drunk that he couldnt even help us to put the key in the lock to unlock our room. So if budget is small dont risk your life like we did but pay a bit extra for that extra bit of safety in a resort with experienced guides and trackers inside the parkgates. This guide was working at "Jungle Adventure World", named "babs".
