National Network of Buses or KTEL operates a frequent schedule of buses to all the major cities of the country. Shutle buses depart twice daily to Athens (8-9 hours eta) and there are hourly connections to Thessaloniki.

Train Connections are frequent to the rest of the country, as well as to Europe (via Bulgaria) or Asia (via Turkey). OSE, the national train operator, has set a daily bus shuttle to Istanbul that departs the main Station early (around 7AM) every morning. Tickets are usually easy to find and can be booked in the ticket office.

Get around

By Car: The new super-highway Egnatia can get you anywhere in the region within an hour or an hour and a half for the most remote areas. It connects all the major cities in Thraci From Xanthi to the cross point with Bulgaria in Kastanies north of Evros or the Customs with Turkey on the east.

By Bus: Even the smallest rural villages can be accessed by using a combination of local run buses.

By Train: Frequent stops all along the train line and cities dotted along the Evros River. A scenic route for some but rather slow for the busy traveler.

By Boat: SAOS will sail you to Samothraki daily or even more frequently during the summer period.
