Hyde Park Bar & Grill. 206 Duval St. (at 44th - look for the giant fork with a basket of fries on to. 1 512-458-3168. aily 11AM-Midnight. inners $11-18. ttp://www.hydeparkbarandgrill.com. Known for their buttermilk fries and homestyle cooking. Has a pretty decent beer selection as well.
New World Deli. 101 Guadalupe St. (across the street from the State Hospital). 1 512-451-7170. Large New York deli style sandwiches. Many people recommend the sloppy joe.
Parlor Hyde Park. 031 Guadalupe (across the street from Hyde Park theater). 1 512-323-0440. Join a diverse group of locals for a slice of pizza on the outdoor patio.
Quack's 43rd Street Bakery. 11 E 43rd St.. 1 512-453-3399. A very popular place to sit and drink coffee, although many people claim the staff could use some lessons on their manners.
Mother's Cafe & Garden. 215 Duval St. 512) 451-3994. Some of the best vegetarian food you can find in Austin, appealing to many omnivores as well as vegetarians.
Ruby's BBQ. 12 West 29th Street. 12 477 1651. ttp://rubysbbq.com/. Close to campus, this older establishment serves natural meats slapped onto a piece of butcher paper and served on a plastic tray. The dog-friendly patio is a good place to eat (though you may want to avoid it in the summertime). The food is one of the better casual BBQ joints in town. And it shares an alley with the Spider House, so you can go get some good coffee after your meal.
