'''Primrose Hill''' is a traditional village located within central London. Due to the lack of through roads for traffic, the area seems miles away from the general rush and bustle of London, and forms something of an oasis of calm in what is still a very central district.

The high street - Regent's Park Road, offers a great selection of local restaurants, cafes and shops; an area as yet untouched by the chain stores that seem ubiquitous elsewhere today.

Get in

The closest tube station is '''Chalk Farm''', one stop from Camden Town on the Edgware branch of the Northern line. Turn right outside the station and take the first left over the bridge. To reach the hill proceed to walk down Regent's Park Road.

Do

A popular destination for both locals and tourists at the weekend, the hill from which the district gets its name gives a fantastic view out across London - from Canary Wharf in the East, all the way across to Battersea Power Station in the West.

Eat

  • '''Sardo Canale''', Gloucester Avenue. An excellent Italian - Sardinian in fact - restaurant situated by the Regent Park Canal. Although on the more expensive side (3 courses with wine will cost around __40), it is arguably worth it.
  • Drink

  • '''The Princess of Wales''', Chalcot Road. This is a traditional pub which offers a fine selection of beers and has a relatively broad food menu. Traditional jazz is played on Thursday nights. One of the more reasonably priced pubs in the area.
  • '''The Pembroke Castle''', Gloucester Avenue. Situated just across the bridge from the local tube station, this remains a popular venue during the summer where you can sit outside.
  • '''The Lansdowne''', Gloucester Avenue. Another local favourite with an excellent restaurant - also connected to the pub - on the first floor.
  • '''The Engineer''', Gloucester Avenue. Opposite Sardo Canale, the reputable Italian restaurant, this rather small pub seems popular with local people. Nevertheless it is quite expensive.
  • Sleep

Unfortunately there are no hotels in Primrose Hill itself. The nearest hotels can be found in Chalk Farm, Belsize Park or Camden Town.
