This is located in Thrissur District of Kerala state. This is Water falls is known for its wild beauty and is Kerala's highest water falls. This water fall is on Chalakkudy river.

Get in

Rail: The nearest railhead is Thrissur (Trichur), and is very well connected to the major cities of South India. Road: Thrissur also has excellent connectivity (both state owned & private buses)to Bangalore, Chennai, Tricandrum, Palghat etc

From Thrissur,it is advisable to hire a cab to complete the Athirapilly - Vazhachal visit; It takes about 1 1/2 to 2 hours to reach the falls. There are also buses, but getting back, especially after 5PM may be very difficult.

Fees/Permits

The entry for the Athirapilly - Vazhachal falls is Rs. 15/- per adult (as on Jan 2008). Private Buses, Cabs, etc have to pay parking fees variying from Rs. 10 for cars to Rs. 30 for the bigger vehicles

Get around

Use your cab to drop you in the Vazhachal picnic park; Travel on foot as it involves some trekking. The car can also drop you in the Athirapilly falls gate, from where you can climb down the steps to get breath taking views of the Indian Niagara (you cannot climb down in the peak season - June to Sep)

See

  • The Vazhachal picnic park - from where you can walk through the waters/forest. Don't venture too deep into the forests, you may lose your way !!
  • The Athirapilly Falls - walk straight into the entrance to get the birds eye view from the top. Also climb down to the falls (there are steps) to experience Nature's beauty in God's own country..
  • Silver Storm - Amusement Park

    Nothing great - can buy some straw hats; shorts & tees if you want change clothes after getting wet in the water

    No reason to stay in Athirapilly; get back to Thrissur or stay at the accommodation in Silver Storm.
