'''Cuzama''' is a village in the state of Yucatan, in the north of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. It is famed for three beautiful cenotes (cave formations), and is a destination along the Yucatan's Ruta de los Cenotes

    Do

  • Take the Tres Cenotes tour. A hired guide will take you 9km roundtrip via a horse-drawn railcar to visit three cenotes. The cost is 200 MXP per railcar (January 2009 prices; price is not per person!), and swimming is encouraged, so be sure to take a swimsuit if interested. [http://www.yucatantoday.com/destinations/eng-daytrip-cuzama.htm]. The entrance to '''Bolonchoojol''' is a hole in the ground with a ladder constructed by welding old railroad ties. Inside is well-lit cavern with crystal clear water and huge stalactites and stalagmites. '''Chansinic'che''' is another cenote at Cuzama, also accessible with a railroad tie ladder, but a faster way to enter is to dive from a precipice near the surface (about 10 meters). '''Chelentun''' is much more open, and can be reached by a concrete staircase built into the rock, with a handrail. The entire cave is swimable.

    Eat

Before you take the tour, you can ask the household in the one and only store to cook for you. There are only two choices: chicken and Poc Chuc. The chicken is good, but the Poc Chuc is really special.

As you usually eat on your way back from the Cenotes, you can get there really hungry. Therefore my advice would be to ask for two dishes instead of one. The price is really cheap, about $US3.00 only.

Drink? I think you should try one of Yucatan_Ls brand sodas: Krystal. Different flavours, I personally like them all, but I would go for the "Negra" for it_Ls unique (not necessarily meaning pleasant for everyone) flavour. If you just don't like it, its as easy as asking for another flavour. Beverages must be about $8.00 mexican pesos.
