The Bass Highway turns off the South Gippsland Highway and runs down the eastern side of Western Port Bay, past the turn-off to San Remo and Phillip Island, then runs along the Bass Strait coast to Inverloch before turning inland to rejoin the South Gippsland Highway at Leongatha.
The region_fs attractions include its coastline and beaches, the coal mining history of Wonthaggi and the wildlife attractions of Phillip Island.
If coming from the direction of Melbourne, turn off the South Gippsland Highway onto Bass Highway a short way past Lang Lang. There are several other roads into the area from the South Gippsland Highway and the road to Wilsons Promontory.
